Septic installation cost in Arizona and Yavapai County
Updated
A conventional septic system fully installed in Arizona runs $12,000 to $25,000 in published prices, and an engineered system $20,000 and up. (Source: SewerTime 2026 septic cost guide, from a Phoenix-area installer, checked October 2026.) The Yavapai County permit adds $560 for a conventional system or $1,060 for an alternative one. These ranges are not quotes: your price follows a site evaluation by a licensed installer.
Published Arizona price ranges
| Source | Conventional system | Engineered or alternative system |
|---|---|---|
| (Source: SewerTime 2026 septic cost guide, from a Phoenix-area installer, checked October 2026.) | $12,000 to $25,000, fully installed | $20,000 and up (ADEQ Type 4) |
| (Source: Septic System 101 homeowner manual by the Arizona Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association, with Yavapai County Environmental Unit contributors (undated), checked October 2026.) | $4,000 or more | $10,000 to $20,000 or more |
SewerTime also puts permits, perc testing and design at roughly $500 to $1,500 of its total. (Source: SewerTime 2026 septic cost guide, from a Phoenix-area installer, checked October 2026.)
The two sources publish different ranges. The homeowner manual is undated, so its figures are likely older. Treat both as background, not as a price for your property.
Some national cost sites show much lower figures. Angi's Phoenix figures run $1,050 to $8,850 (Source: Angi Phoenix cost figures, checked October 2026.), but they appear to blend tank-only and partial installations and are national model data rather than local installed prices, so we do not use them as a guide.

(Source: Yavapai County Development Services fee documents, revised May 2025, checked October 2026.) Yavapai County runs its own delegated septic permitting program, with separate tracks for conventional and alternative systems. What changes the price
- System type. Engineered and alternative systems cost more than conventional systems in both published sources above.
- Site conditions. Conditions such as caliche or clay soil, a small lot, a high water table or a nearby well can push a property toward an engineered system. (Source: SewerTime 2026 septic cost guide, from a Phoenix-area installer, checked October 2026.)
- Permit type. The county alternative permit costs $500 more than the conventional permit.
